Episode 21

The Question Every Employer Should Ask

Ciao a tutti e Benvenuti!

This week, I share a story that taught me a profound lesson as a leader: we never truly know what’s happening in someone’s life until we take the time to ask. As employers, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day operations, but building a culture of care and understanding starts with something simple—checking in.

In this episode, I dive into the story that opened my eyes to the importance of asking, how this experience reshaped my approach to leadership, share some practical ways to foster open communication with your team, and reflect on why empathy is the key to creating a stronger, more connected workplace.

So, whether you’re managing a team, running a business, or navigating relationships, this lesson is universal: small acts of kindness and curiosity can have a huge impact.

Grazie mille for listening, and remember—leadership starts with listening.

Hello! I am Cristina, the owner of Healthy Italia and a native Italian who moved to the United States in 2014.

My original plan was to stay in the U.S for six months working in an internship while improving my English language skills. After being offered a full-time accounting job, I decided to stay but I followed the advice of my father to pursue “something else” outside of a 9-5 job. Healthy Italia is my “something else”!

The original idea was to open a retail store that would sell imported goods from small Italian producers. Today Healthy Italia has evolved into a retail store with an attached cooking school, where we instruct students in live cooking classes, teaching them how to prepare traditional Italian dishes from scratch.

My mantra is that everyone can create a delicious dish from a few simple ingredients.

Thank you for joining me on this journey!
